Parents or Guardians
- You must earn at least £152 per week (on average). This is equivalent to 16 hours per week at the National Minimum or Living Wage.
- If you are in a couple, both partners must meet the minimum earnings threshold unless one of you is unable to work due to reasons such as disability or parental leave.
- Each partner must not earn more than £100,000 per year.
Eligible Children
- The child must be under 12 years old. If the child has a disability, they must be under 17 years old.
- The childcare provider must be registered with the scheme and approved by the government.
Exceptions and Special Cases
There are exceptions for certain situations:
- If one parent is unable to work due to disability or severe health conditions, they may still qualify.
- Families on certain benefits, such as Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance, are not eligible for Tax-Free Childcare but may receive other childcare support.
