Steps to Apply
- Visit the GOV.UK Tax-Free Childcare page.
- Click on the "Apply now" button to start the application process.
- Log in using your Government Gateway user ID and password. If you don’t have one, you can create an account during the process.
- Provide your personal details, including your:
- Full name and address.
- National Insurance number.
- Details of your employment or self-employment.
- Add details about your child(ren), including their:
- Name and date of birth.
- Disability status (if applicable).
- Complete the verification steps to confirm your identity and income.
- Submit your application and wait for confirmation. HMRC will notify you about the status of your application, usually within 7 days.
What Happens Next?
Once your application is approved:
- You will receive access to your childcare account.
- You can start depositing money into the account. For every £8 you pay in, the government adds £2.
- You can use the funds to pay for childcare with a registered provider.
